The challenge with Delhi is not that there is nowhere to go with dogs. The challenge is that most of the information available online is vague, unverified, or written by someone who has never actually driven the route with a dog in the back seat. This guide is different. Every route on this list has verified stops we have personally confirmed or called ahead to verify.

How this guide works: Each route has the distance, drive time, at least one verified highway stop, and the best-confirmed destination option we know of. Routes marked with 🐾 have Tails Verified or Team Verified listings at the destination. Routes marked with πŸ“ have verified listings en route but are still building destination options - we flag this honestly.

The Two Highway Stops That Appear on Almost Every Route

Before the individual routes - two stops that serve almost every direction out of Delhi and are worth knowing by default.

Village Food Courts, Eastern Peripheral Expressway (35 km, northeast of Delhi) - clean green lawn, 24-hour food, large parking. Works for Rishikesh, Jim Corbett, Bhimtal, Mussoorie, and any route going north or northeast via the EPE.

Kundan's, Gajraula (120 km, NH9) - Punjabi dhaba, outdoor seating, proper dog break. Works for Rishikesh, Jim Corbett, Bhimtal, and any route going northeast on NH9.

If you are heading south or west (Agra, Jaipur), neither of these is on your route. Those directions have thinner verified stop coverage - we are building it out as we travel and verify.

Route 1 - Delhi to Jim Corbett 🐾

255 km Β· 5.5–6.5 hrs Β· Via NH9 β†’ Kashipur

The most complete pet-friendly route from Delhi. Four Tails Verified stops, a riverside resort, and river swimming access. The Den Corbett Resort is genuinely one of the best pet-friendly properties we have stayed at in India.

Route 2 - Delhi to Rishikesh 🐾

240 km Β· 5–6 hrs Β· Via NH334 β†’ Haridwar bypass

Three Team Verified pet-friendly Hosteller properties on the Ganges. Good river bank access for dogs. Key rule: private rooms only, no dorms. Easy overnight or early-morning drive.

Route 3 - Delhi to Mussoorie 🐾

290 km Β· 6–7 hrs Β· Via NH334 β†’ Dehradun β†’ Mussoorie

Mussoorie is the closest proper hill station from Delhi. The last 14 km from Dehradun to Mussoorie is a steep, winding hill road - completely fine in a car, slightly more careful in a large SUV. The town itself has a main Mall Road that is crowded but the quieter Library Bazaar area and the Landour cantonment are much more dog-friendly.

Route 4 - Delhi to Bhimtal and Sattal 🐾

310–330 km Β· 7–8 hrs Β· Via NH9 β†’ Kashipur β†’ Bhimtal

Quieter than Nainital, better lake access for dogs, leash-free resort options in the hills above town. Sattal has the best dog swimming lake access we have found in Uttarakhand.

Route 5 - Delhi to Panikot Lake, Faridabad πŸ“

45 km Β· 60–75 mins Β· Via Faridabad

This is the closest proper outdoor experience to Delhi with dogs. An abandoned mine lake in the Aravalli hills - no barriers, no entry restrictions, golden hour over rocky hills. Day trip only, no stays at the location itself. Best October to March.

Route 6 - Delhi to Nainital via Bhimtal πŸ“

325–345 km Β· 7.5–8.5 hrs Β· Via NH9 β†’ Kashipur β†’ Bhimtal β†’ Bhowali

Nainital itself has very limited verified pet-friendly options - the lake is crowded, the Mall Road is chaotic, and most hotels are not set up for dogs. We recommend using Bhimtal as your base (30 minutes from Nainital) and day-tripping into the town if you want to see it. Bhimtal has verified listings, Nainital currently does not.

Route 7 - Delhi to Agra πŸ“

230 km Β· 3.5–4.5 hrs Β· Via Yamuna Expressway

The Yamuna Expressway is one of the smoothest highways in India. Agra itself is hot, crowded, and has very limited outdoor space for dogs. The Taj Mahal complex does not allow dogs. What Agra does have is a few farm stays on the outskirts that welcome dogs - we are actively verifying these. If you have a specific Agra property to suggest, submit it here β†’

Route 8 - Delhi to Jaipur πŸ“

280 km Β· 5–6 hrs Β· Via NH48

NH48 (Delhi–Mumbai Highway) is excellent - six-lane, well-maintained, fast. Jaipur has a growing pet parent community and some good dog-friendly cafe options emerging. We are building out Jaipur listings. If you know a verified pet-friendly stay or cafe in Jaipur, add it to our platform β†’

The Honest Summary

North and northeast of Delhi - Uttarakhand, the Kumaon hills, the Garhwal foothills - is where the verified pet-friendly infrastructure is strongest right now. This reflects where we have personally travelled and where properties tend to have more outdoor space and a more relaxed attitude about dogs.

South and west of Delhi - Rajasthan, Agra, and the plains - have the highway infrastructure but are behind on verified pet-friendly listings. We are building this out route by route. If you drive these directions regularly with a dog, your submissions help the whole community.

Own or know a pet-friendly property on any of these routes? List it on Pet Friendly Places β†’ Every verified listing makes the next road trip easier for someone else.
