🏔️ Nainital Uttarakhand Hills
🐾 Pet-Friendly Pets Welcome
💰 ₹500/day Pet Charge
Tucked into the Ayarpata Hills above Mallital, The Fern Villas is a pet-friendly stay in the heart of Nainital, Uttarakhand , one of the few hill properties in this popular Kumaon destination that explicitly welcomes guests travelling with dogs. The property sits within a quiet, green pocket of Nainital's upper reaches, away from the bustle of the Mall Road lakefront, making it a genuinely calming base for pet parents who want to explore the hills without leaving their dog behind at home.
✓ Verified by the Pet Friendly Places team
The Fern Villas is confirmed as a pet-friendly stay in Nainital. The property charges ₹500 per day for pets. We recommend calling or messaging the property directly before booking to confirm availability of a pet-suitable room and any specific ground rules for your dog.
The Setting
The Fern Villas sits in the Ayarpata Hills area of Mallital , the upper, quieter end of Nainital town , with proximity to the NCC Office landmark that makes it identifiable on most map apps. This part of Nainital is characterised by dense oak and rhododendron cover, cooler air even in summer, and significantly less tourist traffic than the lakeside promenade. For dogs that find crowd noise and congestion stressful, this elevation and location is a genuine advantage over properties closer to Naini Lake's busy ghats and market streets. The surrounding hills offer walking paths and forest trails, and the broader Nainital area is known for leisurely morning walks through pine-scented forest roads that dogs tend to love.
Rooms and Amenities
Hotel details confirmed via Google listing indicate free Wi-Fi, free parking, a business centre, paid breakfast, laundry service, and a pet-friendly classification. Free parking is a practical advantage for pet parents arriving by road , which, given Nainital's limited rail connectivity, is how most families with dogs will make the journey. The property's website is www.thefernvillas.com where current room availability and rates can be checked directly. Google reviewers describe good rooms with a pleasant ambience, well-organised facilities, and professional staff , with specific mention of food quality and kind service. While these are general impressions, consistent positive feedback across multiple reviews does suggest a property that runs to a reasonable standard.
What to Know Before You Visit
The confirmed pet charge is ₹500 per day , a reasonable and transparent fee that at least tells you upfront what to budget. Before booking, it is worth confirming directly with the property (call: 070556 60804) whether your specific dog's size or breed is accommodated, whether pets are permitted inside the room or only in designated areas, and whether there are any outdoor spaces on the property where your dog can relieve themselves without needing to walk onto the main road. Nainital town itself has some narrow, traffic-heavy roads near the lake , keeping dogs leashed at all times in town is strongly recommended. The hills above Ayarpata, however, offer quieter road-walking and forest paths that are far more suitable for a relaxed outing with a dog.
Getting Here
Nainital is best reached by road. The nearest major railhead is Kathgodam, approximately 35 kilometres away , a roughly 1 to 1.5 hour drive depending on traffic and season. From Delhi, the drive is typically 6 to 8 hours via the Moradabad–Rudrapur–Haldwani route. Private cabs from Kathgodam to Nainital are the standard approach for families travelling with pets. The Ayarpata Hills address places The Fern Villas slightly above the town centre, so factor in a short uphill approach when planning your arrival, particularly if you are driving a larger vehicle.
What We Haven't Confirmed Yet
Several details about The Fern Villas remain unconfirmed at the time of listing: whether pets are permitted inside guest rooms or only on grounds, the maximum number of pets per booking, any breed or weight restrictions, and whether the property has a dedicated outdoor area for dogs. Please verify these directly with the property before making a booking, especially if you are travelling with a large-breed dog or multiple pets.
