Jim Corbett is one of the best dog travel destinations in North India. Not because it is designed for dogs - the national park itself does not allow them - but because the buffer zone around the park, the Kosi and Ramganga rivers, and the growing number of genuinely pet-first stays in the area create an experience that is difficult to match elsewhere in the region.
We have done the Jim Corbett trip with Apple, Captain and Kimchi multiple times. Read our full trip story for the narrative version. This guide is the planning framework.
Getting There from Delhi/NCR
Distance: 328 km from Gurugram / 295 km from Delhi
Drive time: 6–7 hours standard, 5.5 hours night drive
Route: NH44 → Murthal → NH9 toward Moradabad → Gajraula → NH121 → Ramnagar → Resorts
Our recommended approach: night drive - leave at 9–9:30 PM, arrive 4–5 AM. The dogs sleep through most of it, the roads are clear, the temperature is lower. See our night drives guide for the complete framework.
Highway stops:
- Village Food Courts, Eastern Peripheral (114 km) - open lawn, clean restrooms, 24 hours.
- Kundan's Gajraula (205 km) - our dog dinner stop. 55 minutes, proper rest before the final stretch.
What Dogs Can (and Cannot) Do in Jim Corbett
Dogs CANNOT enter Jim Corbett National Park. No safari zones, no forest ranges. This is non-negotiable and strictly enforced.
What dogs CAN do in the Jim Corbett area:
- Kosi River: Shallow, clear sections are safe for large dogs in low-flow months (October to March, early May). Apple swam here for 40 minutes. See our Kosi River listing for details.
- Resort grounds: Properties like The Den Corbett have large lawns and gardens where dogs can roam freely.
- Buffer zone walks: Some areas of the buffer zone around the park are accessible for leashed walks.
Where to Stay
The Den Corbett Resort & Spa - our personally visited, Tails Verified recommendation. No pet charges. Large lawns. Pet-friendly infinity pool. Two connected family rooms available with indoor pet area.
Seasonal Advice
Best months: October to March
June–September (Monsoon): Do not travel. River levels become dangerous. Roads to many buffer zone properties flood.
Tick Prevention: Non-Negotiable at Jim Corbett
Jim Corbett's buffer zone forests are high tick-burden areas. Apply tick prevention at least 24 hours before arrival. Read our complete tick fever guide.
