The Timber Glow is a boutique homestay in Bair Gaon, Dewalkhal, Lansdowne - listed on A Dog's Story, India's dedicated pet-travel platform, which means the pet-friendliness here has been vetted rather than self-declared. Ten villas with private balconies and uninterrupted mountain or valley views, set in the kind of Lansdowne quiet that the Garhwal hills deliver - uncrowded, unhurried, and genuinely away from the noise of Uttarakhand's more commercialised hill stations. All mobile networks work on site, power backup (inverter) is in place, and the ₹7,000/night starting rate includes breakfast and taxes - pricing that reflects boutique rather than budget, with infrastructure that justifies it.
The pet infrastructure here is specific and worth noting: dedicated pet play area, pet beds and bowls provided in-room, basic pet-friendly meals available from the café, pet sitting/daycare services, and a vet on call. Leash-free green spaces across the partially fenced property mean a dog can actually move freely rather than spend the entire trip on lead. The property has a swimming pool, bonfire area, restaurant/café (Indian, Continental, Chinese), lounge, and kitchen access - a full-service setup rather than a stripped-back homestay.
What makes Lansdowne right for dog trips
Lansdowne is one of Uttarakhand's quietest hill stations - a Cantonment town that retained its character precisely because it was never heavily commercialised. No mall roads, no busy bazaars, no honking traffic at 11 PM. The trails around the town are genuinely accessible, the forest cover is dense, and the altitude (around 1,700 metres) keeps summer temperatures moderate. For a dog that gets overwhelmed by Mussoorie or Nainital crowds, Lansdowne's lower footfall makes the whole trip calmer.
Activities from the property
Guided treks through nearby trails, slow nature walks, birdwatching, stargazing under clear night skies, bonfire evenings, and picnic outings in the hills - all available on or directly from the property. The 450 km, 9-hour drive from Delhi is the one friction point - it's a longer haul than Nainital or Bhimtal, but Lansdowne's uncrowded character is the direct payoff for the extra distance. Plan for an early departure to avoid arriving after dark on the narrow approach roads.
