The Sylvan Retreat Dehradun (Hariyawala Kalan)

Current confirmed policy updates: Pets are allowed on beds and sofas. These confirmations supersede older statements for these facts only. Other restrictions remain unchanged.

The Sylvan Retreat sits inside a private mango orchard in Hariyawala Kalan on the outskirts of Dehradun, with Himalayan foothill views, a nearby stream, and enough open space for dogs to actually breathe. The property welcomes all breeds - no size limits, no breed restrictions - which already puts it ahead of most resort stays in Uttarakhand. Pet charges apply at ₹1,500 per room per stay; confirm the exact per-night or flat-fee structure directly with the property before booking.

What the property is actually like

The resort describes itself as a converted rustic farmhouse, and the setting backs that up: you're inside a mango orchard with wooden-accented architecture, expansive windows framing the hills, and the sound of a nearby stream running through the grounds. Room options include River View Rooms (200 sq. ft., twin beds, river stream views) among others. The property has an outdoor pool, a restaurant with breakfast buffet, room service, and free parking - all practical wins when you're travelling with a dog and need to manage logistics. There's no spa or fitness centre on site.

Breakfast and Dining Services

The property has an on-site restaurant and offers a breakfast buffet along with room service. These dining options allow guests to have meals at the property without needing to travel into Dehradun for every meal , a genuine convenience when you'd rather not leave your dog alone in the room or load everyone back into the car mid-day. Menu availability, breakfast timings, and room service options may vary, so guests with specific dietary requirements should confirm these details with the property before their stay.

River and stream views from the property

One of the quieter advantages of staying at The Sylvan Retreat is the natural framing that surrounds it. Selected rooms , specifically the River View Rooms at around 200 sq. ft. with twin beds , are positioned to face the stream and foothill landscape rather than a road or car park. waking up to the sound of moving water is a genuinely different start to a morning than what most hotels in central Dehradun can offer. The stream itself runs close enough to the property to be part of the ambient experience, and the foothill backdrop adds to the sense of being properly away from the city rather than just on its edge. For dog owners, this matters practically too: the natural setting around the stream gives you a reason to step outside early with your dog without needing to drive anywhere first.

For dog owners specifically

The property's own pet page says your furry companions are welcome to join you during your stay and specifically mentions nearby trails and open spaces for outdoor exploration. The orchard grounds give dogs room to move without being confined to a small lawn. With free self-parking available, road-trippers driving up from Delhi or Haridwar can unload dogs, gear, and luggage without the usual hotel drop-off scramble. The property accepts dogs and cats, so multi-pet families are also covered.

Nearby trails for dogs

The property's pet information specifically calls out nearby trails and outdoor spaces that guests can explore with their dogs , a genuine differentiator from resort stays that limit pets to a small designated patch of lawn. The foothill setting around Hariyawala Kalan means the surrounding area has natural walking routes through relatively green, low-traffic terrain, which suits most breeds well. That said, trail conditions here can shift with the weather, and accessibility may vary by season. Before heading out, check with the property on current trail status and any local guidance , this is especially worth doing if you're visiting during or just after the monsoon months, when paths can get muddy or slippery underfoot.

Getting There , Shuttle and Transport

The Sylvan Retreat lists both an airport shuttle service (available at an additional charge) and local shuttle services for guests. These may be useful if you're arriving by flight or need to get around Dehradun without a personal vehicle. However, if you're travelling with a dog, this is worth a direct call before you land: confirm whether pets are permitted in the shuttle vehicles, whether a crate or carrier is required, and whether any additional transport charges apply for pets. Most guests driving up from Delhi, Haridwar, or Rishikesh will arrive by car, which sidesteps this question entirely , but it's worth knowing the options if your travel logistics are more complex.
