The Hosteller Mussoorie, Mall Road (Mussoorie)

A hostel on Mall Road that actually welcomes your dog - no extra charges, no cap on the number of pets - is a rare find in Mussoorie. The Hosteller sits on a hillside behind the Accord Hotel, with Himalayan valley views and a relaxed backpacker vibe that somehow works just as well for pet parents as it does for solo travellers. Guests consistently mention that their dogs settled in happily and that the staff were genuinely warm about it.

What the property looks like

This is an informal hillside hostel - think Himalayan valley views from a terrace cafe, communal lounges, a fire pit, and a library, not a polished resort. Accommodation ranges from mixed-gender dorms with Wi-Fi, lockers, and ceiling fans to private rooms with TVs, kettles, and en suite bathrooms. Upgraded private rooms add valley views or balconies; suites have separate living areas. There is no air-conditioning, which is typical for Mussoorie's altitude. The casual terrace cafe is a genuine highlight - a good spot to sit with your dog while the mountains do their thing.

Travelling here with a dog

The location on Tibetan Market Gali, just off Mall Road, means you are steps from one of Mussoorie's busiest pedestrian stretches - useful for walks but expect crowds, especially on weekends and peak season. The hillside setting means some steps and uneven terrain around the property, so factor that in if you have a senior dog or a very small breed. No pet fee is a genuine rarity at a Mussoorie stay, and the no-limit-on-pets policy means multi-pet households can travel without the usual negotiation. Reviewers specifically noted that their dogs were welcomed without fuss, and the owner responses confirm the property takes its pet-friendly tag seriously.

A few things to keep in mind

This is a hostel, not a pet resort - there are no dedicated pet amenities listed such as bowls, beds, or a dog run. Bring your own gear. The dorm sections are budget-style shared spaces, so travelling with a dog works best if you book a private room or suite rather than a dorm bunk. The property is about 5 km from Lal Tibba Scenic Point and 1 km from NH707A, so it sits in the thick of Mussoorie rather than on a quiet outskirt - plan your walks accordingly, particularly during busy tourist weekends.
