Swaasha Vista, Kausani (Kausani State)

Swaasha Vista sits in the tea estate belt of Kausani, Uttarakhand - one of the most scenic hill towns in the Kumaon region, known for its unobstructed Himalayan panoramas stretching from Trishul to Nanda Devi. This is a pet friendly hotel in Kausani that explicitly welcomes dogs inside guest rooms, charges no extra pet fee, and allows all breeds - a combination that is genuinely rare at Himalayan properties. If you have been turned away at hill station hotels before because of your dog's size or breed, Swaasha Vista is worth bookmarking.

The Setting - Tea Estates and Himalayan Views

Kausani is a small ridge town in Bageshwar district, Uttarakhand, and Swaasha Vista is positioned within the tea estate area near the village of Bhatariya, just outside the main Kausani market. The location means you are not in a crowded bazaar - you are on the quieter, greener edge of town where the road curves past tea gardens and the horizon opens up toward the snow peaks. For dogs, this kind of setting translates to morning walks with no urban chaos - open roads, cool mountain air, and relatively low traffic compared to the town centre.

The property itself lists a garden among its activity highlights, alongside tours and a game room. Kausani has several walking trails in and around town - the path toward the Anasakti Ashram and the tea garden trails near the estate road are accessible on foot from this part of town. These are gentle, paved or packed-earth routes well-suited for dogs of all sizes. The altitude here is approximately 1,890 metres, so the climate is cool even in summer - no overheating concerns for large or thick-coated breeds.

Pet Policy - What's Actually Confirmed

This is one of the cleaner pet policies we have seen at a Kumaon hill property. Pets are allowed inside guest rooms - not just on the grounds or in an outdoor area, but in the room with you. There is no pet fee charged on top of the room rate, which means no awkward conversation at check-in about extra charges. All breeds are welcome, so owners of larger dogs - Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds - do not need to worry about being turned away at the door.

The one clear rule: dogs must be on a leash when moving around the property. This is standard practice at most hill properties and is worth respecting, particularly in a setting where other guests and staff are present. The property also operates as a no-smoking venue and does not accommodate hen or stag parties, which generally signals a quieter, more family-oriented atmosphere - good context for a pet-friendly stay.

Confirmed amenities at the property include a restaurant, café, room service, 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, concierge, free parking, free Wi-Fi, laundry, bonfire, yoga classes, game room, kitchenette, shared kitchen, and daily housekeeping. Check-in is after 12:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM.

What to Know Before You Visit

Kausani is roughly 350–380 km from Delhi via the Nainital–Almora route, making it a genuine overnight drive or a comfortable two-day road trip with a dog. The roads from Almora onward are hilly and winding - factor in extra time if your dog is sensitive to motion on mountain roads, and plan rest stops accordingly. The town itself has limited veterinary infrastructure, so carry your dog's medications, vaccination records, and a basic first aid kit. We have not independently confirmed a nearby vet clinic - this is worth verifying with the property before you travel.

Arriving in Kausani with a dog is straightforward by private vehicle - the property confirms parking is available. The nearest major towns with better veterinary access would be Almora (approximately 50–55 km) or Nainital (approximately 115 km). If you are travelling from Delhi NCR, the Kathgodam railway station is the nearest railhead, about 130 km from Kausani, after which you would need a private cab.

Reviews from guests are mixed - one TripAdvisor reviewer rated it 5/5 calling it "worth for the price" for a 3-star property, while another gave it 1/5. This range of opinions suggests the experience may vary; it is worth reading current reviews and confirming room availability and any updated pet policies directly with the property before booking, particularly if you are planning a longer stay with multiple dogs.
