Different Cuisine Every Night
La Villa Bethany is a boutique homestay run by Sunita and Amarjeet Kudle โ ex-hoteliers who left the industry to build something more personal in Landour. The property sits on Upper Chakkar Road, Landour Cantonment, on a steep ridge with a spectacular panoramic view of the Doon Valley. Himalayan peaks are visible on clear days; the winterline appears at dusk in season. At 3 km from Mussoorie's Picture Palace, it's simultaneously accessible and removed โ the Landour that regulars prefer over the Mall Road end of Mussoorie.
Five resident dogs โ Curo, Curie, Koko, Pebble, Purple โ live at the property. Visiting dogs integrate naturally. Pets are free with no additional charges, and the staff's care for guest dogs is documented specifically: one reviewer's Labrador (Simba) was walked and fed on time by Sunita's team when the owners went trekking. The Tripadvisor review corpus for La Villa Bethany is unusual in its consistency: multiple reviewers describe returning for their third, fourth, or fifth visit โ the kind of loyalty that comes from a property that improves rather than coasts. Amarjeet Kudle's pyrography artwork appears throughout the property, including the LOTR-themed Hobbit Hole cottage, which has a grass roof, Middle Earth map, and enough design intention to be the reason guests pick a specific room rather than a bed for the night.
The rooms
Log Cabin: wood-panelled duplex with wood-burning stove, antler chandelier, mezzanine loft with twin beds, king bed below โ for families or groups. Shaw Suite: patio with direct Doon Valley views, where the winterline is visible from your own outdoor seating. Hobbit Hole ("Bag's End"): Lord of the Rings-themed cottage with grass roof, pyrography artwork by Amarjeet, Middle Earth map โ a genuinely designed room, not a marketing gimmick. New suite also available โ check with property for current room configuration.
Landour as a destination
Landour is the quieter, older cantonment area above Mussoorie โ less commercially developed, with oak and deodar forest, old colonial buildings, and the famous Char Dukan (bakeries and tea shops) a short walk from La Villa Bethany. Jabarkhet Nature Reserve โ 1,000 acres of protected oak and deodar forest โ is a day trip from the property and specifically recommended by Sunita for the guided forest walk. The Landour Language School and Lal Tibba viewpoint are within walking distance. Mussoorie's Mall Road is 3 km away โ close enough for a day visit, far enough that the noise doesn't reach the property.
