The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has changed the road-trip calculus for the Dehradun-Mussoorie-Rishikesh corridor - what was a 6–7 hour journey via the old NH58 is now closer to 4–4.5 hours on a good day. Where it fits on the journey

The expressway enters Uttarakhand terrain quickly - by the time you approach the Jaldi Road Diner, the landscape has already shifted from the UP plains to the Shivalik foothills, and the air quality noticeably changes. Dogs notice this too; a stop here gives them a chance to actually smell the hills rather than just staring at the motorway from the back seat. On a Delhi-Dehradun run this is typically the one stop worth making - close enough to Dehradun that you arrive fresh, not so close that it's unnecessary.

The old NH58 via Haridwar and Rishikesh had more organic stopping options: roadside dhabas, impromptu river-bank access points, the flexibility of taking a detour. The expressway trades that texture for speed.
