Tapovan
Rishikesh
Tucked into the quiet lanes of Tapovan โ Rishikesh's calmer, less chaotic neighbourhood โ Smol Door is a modern European-styled boutique hotel that genuinely welcomes pets at no extra charge. Rooms come with air conditioning, private bathrooms, balconies, and mountain views, making it one of the more comfortable pet-friendly bases in the Rishikesh area. Pet food is available on-site, which is a practical touch you don't find at most properties here.
โ Confirmed by the property
Smol Door has confirmed that pets stay free of charge. Only dogs and cats are accepted, with a maximum of 1 pet per booking. Pet food is available at the property. Pets must be on a leash in common areas and are not permitted in the swimming pool area, kitchen, or restaurant.
What to Expect With Your Dog
The Tapovan location works well for dogs โ it's quieter than the Laxman Jhula market stretch, with Balaknath Road offering relatively calm morning and evening walks. The hotel's terrace is a legitimate plus: watching the Himalayan mist roll in from your balcony with your dog beside you is the kind of moment that makes the drive up worthwhile. Keep in mind that pets need to be leashed throughout the property, and the restaurant is off-limits for your dog, so meals are a solo affair unless you use room service.
Facilities That Matter for Pet Parents
Free private parking (reservation required) is a real convenience if you're driving up with a dog and gear. Free WiFi covers all areas, there's a 24-hour front desk, and room service means you're not forced to leave your dog alone to eat. The on-site restaurant serves vegetarian breakfast. Pet food being available at the property means you don't need to panic-pack a week's worth of kibble โ though confirming your dog's specific brand in advance is always wise. The property has no resident animals, which matters if your dog is reactive.
Location & Getting Around
Smol Door sits on Balaknath Road in Tapovan, opposite Zuna Stays and near AYM Yoga School. Laxman Jhula is roughly an 18-minute walk, Ram Jhula is about 2.7 km away, and Himalayan Yog Ashram is just 500 metres. The area can get busy during peak yoga and pilgrimage season, so early morning walks before the lanes fill up are the move with a dog. Dehradun Airport is 19 km away. The Ganga riverfront is close, but note that the ghats and suspension bridges during peak hours are genuinely crowded โ manage your dog's exposure accordingly.
