The Property: What You Are Actually Getting
Leela Homestay is a two-floor independent house. Each floor is a self-contained unit with two air-conditioned rooms, a hall with a dining table and TV, a fully equipped kitchen, a balcony with a grass mat for dogs to stretch, and access to a common roof. You can book one floor or both. We booked the first floor for four nights with roof access.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook: gas stove, utensils, refrigerator, basic pantry supplies. If you do not want to cook, Zomato and Blinkit both deliver reliably to this address. Vijay Nagar is a well-connected neighbourhood and major chains as well as local restaurants are within delivery range. We ordered in most evenings and cooked breakfast ourselves. Apple and Kimchi ate their meals at the dining table without anyone raising an eyebrow. This sounds like a small thing. In most hotels it would not be possible.
The washing machine works. The roof is accessible and genuinely usable. In July the monsoon brings evening rain and the roof becomes the best place on the property — we sat there with the dogs as the rain came in over Jabalpur and it was exactly the kind of evening that makes a road trip worthwhile. The balcony grass mat is a nice touch for dogs who want to be outside but not on the road. Apple used it every morning. Kimchi preferred the bed, which she had claimed within ten minutes of arriving.

Vijay (The Housekeeping), and Why He Matters
Vijay manages the housekeeping at Leela Homestay. He is, by his own admission, slightly afraid of dogs. He is also excellent at his job and has an instinctive kindness that overrides whatever apprehension he carries. He cleaned the rooms daily with the same care he would give his own home. He washed dishes on request without making it feel like a request. He navigated Apple and Kimchi with quiet respect rather than avoidance — stepping around them, giving them space, never shooing them.

It is close to MR-4 Road, has good connectivity to all major landmarks, and is quieter than the city centre without being inconveniently remote. Most Delhi NCR and Mumbai dog parents who plan Madhya Pradesh trips think of Kanha, Pench, and Pachmarhi. Jabalpur rarely makes the list. This is a planning gap rather than a destination gap. The Road Trip That Brought Us Here
We drove from Gurgaon to Jabalpur overnight with Apple and Kimchi in July 2026. The distance is approximately 850km via the Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and then south through Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. We stopped at The Food Street Food Court on the Yamuna Expressway near Vrindavan Cut for dinner (KFC, Pizza Hut, Vaango, Subway and Indian street food — large clean parking area with grass for the dogs, open late, well-managed). Our second stop was the Rest Area on the Agra Expressway near Muhabbatpur, where a large grass expanse meant the dogs could stretch properly after hours in the car. At this stop Kimchi met Rudransh — a young Husky who was travelling from Delhi to Ranchi with his family — and played with him for fifteen minutes while the humans ate.
We arrived at Leela Homestay at 7:35am after driving through the night. Apple and Kimchi were unbothered by the journey. Anil had the first floor ready. Within twenty minutes Apple was asleep on the bed and Kimchi had already inspected every room and returned to claim the other bed. The road trip had ended at the right destination.
