Finding a place to stay in Jabalpur that genuinely welcomes your dog is harder than it should be. The city sits in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, home to Marble Rocks, Dhuandhar Falls, the Narmada River, and Kanha National Park, and yet a dog parent looking for accommodation that does not treat their pet as a complication will spend hours on booking platforms before finding anything that works. Leela Homestay is the answer most of those hours are looking for.
Anil, who hosts Leela Homestay in Vijay Nagar, is the kind of host who exists in the gap between what most properties say and what they actually mean. Most properties in Jabalpur say pet-friendly and mean they will not refuse you at the door. Anil means no limit on pets, no limit on breeds, no limit on the number of dogs you bring, dogs sleep on the bed, dogs come into every room, no extra charges, no deposit, no paperwork about your pet at check-in. Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi walked into Leela Homestay and immediately understood they were somewhere that had been designed with them in mind. This is a rare feeling in India.
TAILS VERIFIED , Personally Stayed Here
Ekta, Akash, Apple (The Golden Retriever) (Golden Retriever) and Kimchi (Black Retriever) stayed at Leela Homestay, Vijay Nagar in July 2026. Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi's first visit to Jabalpur and first time at Ekta's family home. 4 nights, first floor with roof access. Everything in this description is from direct personal experience.
The Property: What You Are Actually Getting
Leela Homestay is a two-floor independent house. Each floor is a self-contained unit with two air-conditioned rooms, a hall with a dining table and TV, a fully equipped kitchen, a balcony with a grass mat for dogs to stretch, and access to a common roof. You can book one floor or both. We booked the first floor for four nights with roof access.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook: gas stove, utensils, refrigerator, basic pantry supplies. If you do not want to cook, Zomato and Blinkit both deliver reliably to this address. Vijay Nagar is a well-connected neighbourhood and major chains as well as local restaurants are within delivery range. We ordered in most evenings and cooked breakfast ourselves. Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi ate their meals at the dining table without anyone raising an eyebrow. This sounds like a small thing. In most hotels it would not be possible.
The washing machine works. The roof is accessible and genuinely usable. In July the monsoon brings evening rain and the roof becomes the best place on the property , we sat there with the dogs as the rain came in over Jabalpur and it was exactly the kind of evening that makes a road trip worthwhile. The balcony grass mat is a nice touch for dogs who want to be outside but not on the road. Apple (The Golden Retriever) used it every morning. Kimchi preferred the bed, which she had claimed within ten minutes of arriving.
Pet Policy at a Glance
No breed restrictions. No size restrictions. No limit on number of pets. No pet deposit. No extra charge per pet. Pets allowed on beds and sofas , this is your home for the duration. Dogs can access all rooms, the balcony, and the roof. Call Anil on +91 87708 17512 to book directly and confirm availability.
Vijay (The Housekeeping), and Why He Matters
Vijay manages the housekeeping at Leela Homestay. He is, by his own admission, slightly afraid of dogs. He is also excellent at his job and has an instinctive kindness that overrides whatever apprehension he carries. He cleaned the rooms daily with the same care he would give his own home. He washed dishes on request without making it feel like a request. He navigated Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi with quiet respect rather than avoidance , stepping around them, giving them space, never shooing them.
This matters more than it sounds. The experience of staying somewhere pet-friendly is defined less by the property's formal policy and more by how every person in that property actually behaves around your dog. Vijay's approach to Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi set the tone for the whole stay.
Location: Vijay Nagar, Jabalpur
Vijay Nagar is one of Jabalpur's most practical neighbourhoods for visitors. It is close to MR-4 Road, has good connectivity to all major landmarks, and is quieter than the city centre without being inconveniently remote. Leela Homestay sits behind Vikramaditya College in Ekta Nagar, in a residential lane that is calm enough for dogs to move around without constant traffic stress.
Key distances from Leela Homestay:
- Gwarighat (Narmada River) , approximately 7km. The Gurudwara side of the ghat is quieter, safer for dogs, and accessible without navigating the crowded main ghat area.
- Dhuandhar Falls and Marble Rocks (Bhedaghat) , approximately 20km. Dogs are welcome on the approach road and viewpoints. The boat ride area is crowded , stay near the entrance area with your dog.
- Dumna Nature Reserve , approximately 10km. Good for morning walks in a forested setting.
- Jabalpur Junction Station , approximately 7km.
- Jabalpur Airport (Dumna) , approximately 18km.
Taking Your Dog to the Narmada , What You Need to Know
The Gwarighat main ghat is crowded with pilgrims, stray dogs, and vendors. Go to the Gurudwara side instead. On this side the riverbank is quieter, almost empty during non-peak hours, and the water is accessible with gradual entry. The current is gentle enough for confident dog swimmers, though the Narmada is a river and care is required. Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi entered the water from this side in the evening. It was calm and clean. The Gurudwara itself is a short walk from the parking area.
Why Jabalpur Is Underrated for Dogs
Most Delhi NCR and Mumbai dog parents who plan Madhya Pradesh trips think of Kanha, Pench, and Pachmarhi. Jabalpur rarely makes the list. This is a planning gap rather than a destination gap. The city itself has the Narmada running through it, marble rock gorges at Bhedaghat that take your breath away from the viewpoints, Dumna Nature Reserve for morning walks, and a food culture that runs late and runs good. Vijay Nagar has a dozen well-reviewed dhabas and restaurants that serve until midnight. The weather in the monsoon (July to September) is dramatically beautiful , green hills, cool evenings, and intermittent rain that makes the Narmada run full and fast.
The practical problem has always been accommodation. Hotels in Jabalpur mostly treat dogs the way Mumbai restaurants treat pushchairs , technically not prohibited, handled with visible discomfort. The few genuine exceptions are scattered and hard to find. Leela Homestay is the only accommodation in Jabalpur we have personally verified where dogs are genuinely and enthusiastically welcome at every level of the stay, from the host to the housekeeping to the rooms themselves.
Booking and Practical Information
Leela Homestay is not on major booking platforms for the first-floor unit we stayed in. Book directly with Anil on +91 87708 17512 (phone and WhatsApp). The rate is approximately Rs 3,000 per night per floor with no extra charges for pets regardless of breed, size, or number. Anil is responsive on WhatsApp and the booking process is straightforward. Confirm your dates, your number of dogs, and your arrival time.
Parking is available at the property. The address sits behind Vikramaditya College in Ekta Nagar, Vijay Nagar , Google Maps navigation to the coordinates works reliably. If you are arriving after dark on an overnight road trip (we arrived at 7:35am after driving through the night from Gurgaon), Anil is reachable by WhatsApp for any last-minute navigation questions.
The Google Maps pin for Leela Homestay opens directly to the property location. Use the link on this listing page for accurate navigation , do not rely on the address text alone as some mapping services place pins at the college rather than the homestay.
Before You Book
Call or WhatsApp Anil on +91 87708 17512 to confirm availability for your dates. The property has two floors , if you need both, confirm that both are available and book them together. Tell him how many dogs you are bringing. He will not mind. That is the point.
The Road Trip That Brought Us Here
We drove from Gurgaon to Jabalpur overnight with Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi in July 2026. The distance is approximately 850km via the Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and then south through Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. We stopped at The Food Street Food Court on the Yamuna Expressway near Vrindavan Cut for dinner (KFC, Pizza Hut, Vaango, Subway and Indian street food , large clean parking area with grass for the dogs, open late, well-managed). Our second stop was the Rest Area on the Agra Expressway near Muhabbatpur, where a large grass expanse meant the dogs could stretch properly after hours in the car. At this stop Kimchi met Rudransh , a young Husky who was travelling from Delhi to Ranchi with his family , and played with him for fifteen minutes while the humans ate.
We arrived at Leela Homestay at 7:35am after driving through the night. Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi were unbothered by the journey. Anil had the first floor ready. Within twenty minutes Apple (The Golden Retriever) was asleep on the bed and Kimchi had already inspected every room and returned to claim the other bed. The road trip had ended at the right destination.
Leela Homestay is verified by petfriendlyplaces.in through a personal stay. Ekta, Akash, Apple (The Golden Retriever) and Kimchi stayed here in July 2026. Read the full story of the Gurgaon to Jabalpur overnight road trip here.
