Delhi's First Dog Park (Rajinder Nagar)

Delhi's First Dog Park in Old Rajinder Nagar is exactly what it says - the first purpose-built, dedicated dog park opened by a municipal corporation in Delhi, built by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in Chetak Park. For a city with a large pet-owning population and very few genuine off-leash spaces, this was a genuine landmark when it opened, and it remains one of the only places in central Delhi specifically designed for dogs rather than adapted from a general-purpose park.

The park has a colourful, artsy character that sets it apart visually - the walls are painted with illustrations of approximately 40 dog breeds, designed by Delhi Street Art. The facility includes swings and play equipment specifically for dogs, green areas for running, and a safe enclosed environment. The design was built with post-COVID safety in mind, which is why the registration system exists: only registered dogs are permitted entry, which in practice means the dog population is smaller, better-managed, and generally better behaved than an open-access park.

The case for this park over Deer Park

Deer Park is larger and more scenic, but Deer Park's off-leash areas are specific designated zones within a much larger public space where dogs are otherwise leashed. Rajinder Nagar's dog park is a fully enclosed, dedicated dog space - the whole thing is designed for dogs, not adapted from a general-purpose park. For a dog that benefits from a genuinely enclosed off-leash run without the navigation complexity of a larger park with deer, tourist crowds, and monkey territories, this is the more purposeful choice.

What to be aware of

The park is closed on Sundays, which limits its weekend utility. Opening hours (7 AM–5 PM) mean it doesn't work for evening visits. The Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar area has parking challenges - plan for that before arriving with a dog in the car.
