We hear versions of these seven statements every time we post about a trip with Apple, Captain and Kimchi. Every single one is either completely false or significantly overstated.

Myth 1: "Dogs can't stay in hotels in India"

Reality: There are over 500 verified pet-friendly stays listed on PetFriendlyPlaces.in. What is true: not all hotels that say "pet-friendly" actually are. The solution is better research. Read our guide on what to ask before booking.

Myth 2: "Large dogs can't travel comfortably in Indian cars"

Reality: Apple weighs 26 kg. Captain weighs 18 kg. Kimchi weighs 22 kg. Combined: 66 kg of dogs in a Jeep Rubicon, across 40,000 km. Car setup matters enormously. The car is not the limitation - the preparation is the variable.

Myth 3: "Street dogs are too anxious and unpredictable to travel"

Reality: Captain is a street-origin indie dog. He has been to Jim Corbett, Rishikesh, and Chail. Anxiety in rescue dogs is real and requires patient management - but it does not preclude travel.

Myth 4: "You need breed papers and KCI registration to stay anywhere"

Reality: No property in India has any legal basis to require breed registration certificates. The only document you need is a current vaccination certificate. Read our full breakdown of why breed certificates are not required.

Myth 5: "My dog is too excitable/anxious/reactive to travel"

Reality: Kimchi was 7 months old on her first mountain trip to Chail. Dogs adapt to travel when introduced correctly - with short trips first, familiar objects, consistent routine, and adequate exercise.

Myth 6: "Indian highways are too dangerous/dirty/inadequate for dog travel"

Reality: The Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, NH44, and NH58 are modern, well-maintained highways with food courts and clean restrooms adequate for dog stops.

Myth 7: "It's just too stressful - not worth it for the dogs or for us"

Reality: The first few trips genuinely are stressful. What changes after the first trip: you know what works. By the third trip, it is routine. Apple in the Ganga at 6:45 AM. Captain at the Chail Cricket Ground. Kimchi discovering what a river is. It was worth it. It always is.
