19th Century
Neemrana heritage fort
Perched on the ancient Aravalli hills overlooking farmland in Tijara, Alwar, this 19th-century fort-palace is part of the Neemrana Hotels collection โ one of India's most respected heritage hospitality groups. Dogs and cats are welcome in two specific wings of the property, making it one of the rare heritage forts in Rajasthan where you can actually check in with your pet. The rooms are individually styled, TV-free by design, and most have minifridges โ the heritage character is very much intact.
โ Confirmed by the property
Tijara Fort-Palace has confirmed its pet policy directly. Dogs and cats under 45 kg are welcome in the Sakti Mahal (Tope Mahal Wing) and Deewar Mahal Wing only. A cleaning fee of โน3,000 per stay applies, plus a refundable security deposit of โน1,500 at check-in. You must inform reservations at the time of booking โ walk-in with a pet is at the General Manager's discretion and may be refused.
What to expect with your pet
Your dog or cat gets to stay in rooms within two dedicated wings โ Sakti Mahal (Tope Mahal Wing) and Deewar Mahal Wing. These are proper heritage rooms, not a cordoned-off utility block. Pets must be house-trained and have valid vaccinations; the 45 kg weight cap is generous enough for most large breeds. The fort sits on a hilltop, so there's open air and space around the property, but do note that pets are restricted from all public areas โ no dining rooms, no bar, no recreational spaces. Plan your meals accordingly, as you'll need someone to stay with your dog while you eat, or take turns.
The heritage experience
Tijara Fort-Palace was built in the 19th century and sits on 2-billion-year-old Aravalli rock. The Neemrana group has restored it with a deliberate no-television, no-room-service philosophy โ this is a place that leans into its heritage identity rather than apologising for it. Guided fort tours, evening cultural performances on Saturdays, vintage car rides, alfresco dining, a swimming pool, spa, and a billiards room are all on offer. Breakfast is included in the room tariff. Lunch and dinner are available at โน1,800 and โน2,000 per adult respectively (taxes extra). If your dog eats rice and chicken, pet meals can be arranged on request at โน500 per portion โ a small but thoughtful touch from a heritage property.
Practical notes for pet parents
The uphill road to the fort is rough but manageable, as guests have noted โ factor this in if you're driving with a large dog in the back. The property has a 24-hour front desk, daily housekeeping, and an EV charging station. Check-in is at 2:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. There is no minimum stay requirement, and day-use rooms are available from 9 AM to 5 PM at 60% of the room charge if needed. The โน1,500 security deposit is refundable, but additional charges may apply for extensive cleaning or damages. Pre-booking with advance pet disclosure is non-negotiable โ do not show up at the gate hoping for the best.
