Zana Lake Resort sits on the quieter, less-touristed shore of Udai Sagar Lake - 30 rooms, mountain views framing a glistening lake, and a neo-gothic boutique sensibility that feels genuinely different from Udaipur's usual palace-hotel circuit. For pet parents, the meaningful news is that this is one of very few luxury lakefront properties in Rajasthan with a published, detailed pet policy - dogs are welcome in rooms, the pet fee covers a pet bed and food naturally available at the resort, and the property has clearly thought through how it wants the experience to work.
✓ Confirmed by the property
Zana Lake Resort has a dedicated pet policy page on their website (zanaresorts.com/pet-policy) confirming dogs are allowed in guest rooms. The ₹2,000 plus taxes per pet per night charge covers a pet bed and food naturally available at the resort. All stays with pets require advance approval from the hotel.
What the stay actually looks like with a dog
Your dog stays with you in your room - the policy explicitly covers in-room stays and even addresses what happens during housekeeping (you must be present). The Lakefront Rooms with Private Garden on the first floor are the standout option for dog owners: 650 sq ft opening directly onto a private garden is a genuine luxury when you're travelling with a dog who needs morning space to stretch. The Lakefront Rooms with Balcony on the second floor are also spacious at 450 sq ft. Dogs must be leashed whenever leaving the room, and if you step out of the hotel premises leaving your dog behind, they need to be secured in a crate or carrier.
The honest restrictions worth knowing
The access limitations here are real and worth planning around. Pets are not permitted in the restaurants, banquet areas, gardens, pool, or spa - walking is restricted to designated areas on the hotel grounds. This is a standard luxury-hotel compromise, but it does mean your dog won't be joining you for lakeside dinners. The pet policy also requires permits and clearances from relevant authorities to be submitted to the hotel before arrival - confirm exactly what documentation they need when you call to get pet approval. One pet per room, only non-aggressive dogs and caged birds accepted, and pets above 30 kg need a separate conversation with the team before booking.
The setting and what it adds up to
Udai Sagar is quieter than the more-photographed lakes closer to Udaipur city, and that relative solitude is actually an asset when you're travelling with a dog. Migratory birds on the lake, mountain silhouettes at dusk, and 30 rooms that feel genuinely intimate - this is the kind of property where the surroundings do a lot of the heavy lifting. The pet fee of ₹2,000 plus taxes per night is transparent and covers a pet bed and in-house food, which removes the scramble of sourcing meals on arrival. For specific dietary needs, contact the team in advance - special food can be arranged at an additional charge, subject to availability.
