Swargashram is the quieter, more spiritually concentrated side of Rishikesh โ the eastern bank of the Ganga near Ram Jhula and Parmarth Niketan, home to ashrams rather than the yoga schools and international cafes that cluster in Tapovan and Laxman Jhula. The Ganga View Cafe here is in a different atmosphere entirely from the Tapovan cafe strip: fewer tourists, more pilgrims and long-term ashram residents, and the particular kind of quiet that comes from a place where the main activity is contemplation rather than a chai-and-instagram loop.
The cafe offers riverside seating with direct Ganga views in the Swargashram area โ a practical stop for chai, breakfast or lunch during a Ram Jhula and ashram exploration. The Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan in the evenings is one of the most impressive in Rishikesh and the cafe's Swargashram location makes it a natural place to sit before or after. All food is vegetarian and alcohol-free (standard for the entire Rishikesh area by law).
Why Swargashram works for dogs differently
Dogs in the Tapovan and Laxman Jhula cafe cluster navigate busy tourist lanes, motorcycles, and heavy foot traffic โ manageable for confident dogs, stressful for reactive ones. Swargashram's character is more pedestrian, more spread out, and calmer in pace. The Ganga ghats in this area are broader and less crowded than the Laxman Jhula side, which means walking down to the river with a dog before or after eating is genuinely easier here.
Practical notes
Note: this is the Swargashram location specifically โ there is a separate, better-known "Ganga View Cafe" near Laxman Jhula which has a different character and a mixed record on pet access. If visiting specifically for dog-friendliness, confirm the Swargashram address (near Ram Jhula / Parmarth Niketan) before setting off. The two areas are on opposite sides of the river and require different crossing points.
