Dev Pratima Premium Residency (Puri)

Dev Pratima Premium Residency is a well-rated guesthouse in the heart of Puri, Odisha, situated at Matimandap Sahi in front of Bhogojaga , putting you within easy reach of the city's temples, markets, and the famous Puri beach. With a 4.8-star rating across 224 Google reviews and a 4.4/5 on Tripadvisor, it has earned a strong reputation among travellers. For pet parents, the confirmed policy is straightforward: pets are allowed in private rooms, which means you can keep your dog with you in your own space rather than leaving them in a car or common area.

The Setting

Puri, in Odisha, is one of India's most accessible coastal pilgrimage cities , and also one of the more underrated spots for a pet-friendly trip in eastern India. Dev Pratima Premium Residency sits in the Matimandap Sahi neighbourhood, a local residential area close to the old town. The address places it near Bhogojaga, which means you're in a walkable, lived-in part of Puri rather than on a highway strip. For dog owners, this kind of neighbourhood location can actually work better than a beach-facing hotel , quieter surroundings, less foot-traffic chaos at the door, and easier to step out for a morning walk without navigating a tourist gauntlet.

Puri beach itself is accessible from the city centre, and dogs are commonly seen along the shore, particularly in the early morning hours when crowds are thinner. The beach is a significant draw for travelling pet parents in this part of Odisha , there are few eastern Indian coastal destinations where dogs are as casually accepted on the sand as they are in Puri. The town itself has a lived-in, unhurried quality that makes it less stressful for dogs than, say, a heavily commercialised hill-station market street. Street noise is present, as it is in any Indian town of this size, but the neighbourhood around the residency is residential enough that early-morning walks should be manageable for most dogs on a leash.

Puri is also a practical base for exploring the broader Odisha coastline. Konark, home to the famous Sun Temple, is roughly 35 kilometres away , a day trip that many guests combine with a beach walk. Chilika Lake, one of Asia's largest coastal lagoons and a spectacular bird-watching destination, is under two hours by road. If you're road-tripping through Odisha with your dog, Dev Pratima Premium Residency is well-positioned as a central overnight stop that doesn't require you to leave your pet in the car.

Pet Policy , What's Confirmed

The confirmed policy is that pets are allowed in private rooms only. This is the clearest and most important thing to know: your dog stays with you in your room, not outside, not in a kennel, not in a corridor. This is exactly the policy that matters for most travelling pet parents , your dog isn't separated from you at night, and you're not paying for a room while also arranging separate boarding.

What is not yet confirmed: whether there is a pet charge, whether there is a weight or breed restriction, and whether certain room types are designated as pet-friendly or whether all private rooms qualify. The property lists rooms starting from approximately ₹2,246 per night on booking platforms, but the pet surcharge (if any) is separate and unconfirmed. This is not unusual for smaller guesthouses in India , many allow pets without a formal fee structure, simply asking guests to keep their dogs managed and the room clean. That said, you should never assume no charge without confirming directly.

Always call the property on 070772 91616 before booking , especially during peak Puri tourist season (October through February, and again around the Rath Yatra period in June–July) when room availability and conditions can change quickly. A direct conversation also gives you the chance to mention your dog's size and breed, which helps avoid any awkwardness at check-in even when no formal restriction exists.

What to Confirm Before You Visit

Because this listing is verified at a team level , not personally visited with dogs , there are several things worth clarifying directly with the property. First, ask whether there is a per-night pet charge or a refundable deposit. Second, confirm whether your specific room type (standard, deluxe, or suite) qualifies as a pet-permitted private room, or whether only certain categories apply. Third, note that check-in is at 9:00 am and check-out is at 8:00 am , an unusually early check-out time, so plan your morning accordingly if you need time to walk your dog and settle them before loading up the car.

There is no dedicated pet amenity information available for this property , no confirmation of in-room bowls, pet beds, or a designated garden or lawn space for outdoor bathroom breaks. This is common for urban guesthouses in India that allow pets but haven't formalised their pet offering. It means you should pack your own collapsible bowl, your dog's bedding if they're particular about where they sleep, and waste bags for street walks. Ask the property whether there is an outdoor area , even a small courtyard or side lane , where your dog can relieve themselves without going directly onto the main road. In dense urban locations, this small logistical detail can make a real difference to how smoothly a stay goes, especially on arrival after a long drive.

Also worth asking: what the property's policy is on leaving your dog unattended in the room. Some guesthouses that allow pets in rooms are fine with a crated dog being left briefly while you step out for a meal; others prefer a guest to always be present with the animal. Knowing this in advance saves friction and lets you plan meals and temple visits around your dog's comfort and the property's expectations.

Getting There

Puri is connected by train to Bhubaneswar (roughly 60 kilometres, under two hours by road), which has the nearest major airport , Biju Patnaik International Airport. If you're driving from Bhubaneswar, the NH316 is the most direct route and is in good condition for most of the year. Parking availability at the property has not been confirmed , ask when you call. For those travelling by train with a dog, Puri Railway Station is one of the more dog-navigable stations in Odisha, with manageable crowds outside of peak pilgrimage periods. The property's location in Matimandap Sahi puts it a short auto-rickshaw ride from the station.
