Delhi to Bhimtal: Pet-Friendly Road Trip Guide (NH24)
The Route
Delhi to Bhimtal is approximately 295 km on NH24, taking 7–8 hours from central Delhi — add 20–30 km from Gurgaon or Noida. The road runs: Delhi → Ghaziabad → Hapur → Moradabad → Rampur → Haldwani → Bhowali → Bhimtal. The last 20 km from Haldwani climbs into the Kumaon foothills — roads narrow, the air cools, and the plains disappear behind you.
The Overnight Strategy
Most pet owners do the overnight drive: leave after 10 pm, arrive at Bhimtal by 6–7 am. Dogs sleep through most of the NH24 stretch and wake up to a lake and cool mountain air.
The Stops We Have Verified
Shiva Dhaba (~80 km from Delhi, Babugarh) is the natural first break after the NCR ends. Open outdoor space, dogs can stretch on a leash, chai around the clock.
Moga Punjabi Dhaba (~130 km, Yak Bagdi) has operated since 1969. Street dogs sleep inside when we arrived at 3 am. Full Punjabi kitchen at any hour.
At the Destination
Emerald Trail has private fenced gardens per cottage, no pet charges, and a water bowl waiting for your dog before you check in — the most pet-first property we have stayed at in the Indian mountains.
The Afternoon
Once rested, drive 22 km to Sattal Lake — Apple swam there freely, gentle banks, no restrictions, forest all around.
