Thenmala
Kerala Hills
Thenmala Ecoresort sits on Thenmala Dam Road in the lush hills of southern Kerala, just 2 km from the Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary. The resort offers a mix of cottages and hotel rooms across a forested property with a swimming pool, fishing pond, and adventure activities - and crucially for dog parents, pets are welcome to stay in the cottages. If you're booking with a dog, skip the standard rooms and go straight for a cottage unit.
✓ Confirmed by the property
Thenmala Ecoresort has confirmed that pets are allowed in cottages. Pets are not permitted in the hotel rooms or restaurant areas. There is no dedicated pet fee listed - confirm current charges directly with the property at 080866 26661 before booking.
The Cottage Setup for Pet Families
The resort's cottages - including the thatched-roof Ground Zero units - are the accommodation to book if you're travelling with a dog. At 60 sqm, they're spacious enough for a large breed, and the cottage format typically means more direct outdoor access than a standard hotel room. The property itself is spread across greenery with open lawns and forested surrounds, giving dogs room to decompress after a long drive. Rooms come with AC, mini fridge, kettle, TV, hot shower, and Wi-Fi - the basics are well covered. Note that pets are not allowed in the restaurant, so plan for room service or outdoor eating arrangements for mealtimes.
What the Property Offers Beyond the Room
The resort is genuinely activity-rich for the humans in your group: there's a full-sized swimming pool (with a kids' pool with waterfall), a fishing pond, stream walking, nature walks through the surrounding forest, zip-lining, and access to the Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary for safaris. The barbecue lawn nights with music and campfire are a proper Kerala evening done right. Traditional Marma treatment and Kalari massage are available at the spa. For pet parents, the open grounds and nature walk trails are the real draw - the kind of terrain where a dog can actually stretch out and sniff properly, rather than being walked along a hotel corridor.
Getting Here
Thenmala is approximately 90 minutes from Trivandrum, 120 minutes from Kollam, and 60 minutes from Tenkasi (Tamil Nadu side). The resort is located off NH744 on Thenmala Dam Road - a straightforward drive on a good road, which matters when you're travelling with dogs. The property offers airport pickup and drop on request (extra charge). Check-in is at 2:00 PM and check-out at 12:00 PM. Free parking is available on-site, and the resort accepts credit cards, debit cards, UPI/NFC payments, and cash.
