DeraMandawa (Jaipur)

Dera Mandawa is a small family-run heritage haveli sitting just outside Chandpole Gate in Jaipur, Rajasthan , one of the few heritage properties in the Pink City that explicitly welcomes both dogs and cats in private rooms and in the swimming pool. Reviewers describe it as a genuine oasis: spacious rooms across two levels, a peaceful outdoor courtyard, and an attentive owner who greets guests personally. For pet parents visiting Jaipur, this is a rare find , a stay where your dog doesn't have to wait in the car while you check in, and where the pool is as much theirs as it is yours.

The Property

Dera Mandawa occupies New Mandawa House, a heritage haveli on Sansar Chandra Road adjoining Punjab National Bank, just outside the historic Chandpole Gate. Reviewers consistently describe rooms as large and well-appointed , several on two levels , with some featuring outdoor seating areas that catch the morning light. The interiors carry what one guest called "an aura of faded aristocratic charm": high ceilings, period furniture, and the kind of quiet that makes you forget you're in the middle of one of India's busiest cities. The outside courtyard space is described as particularly peaceful and well-suited to winding down after a long day of sightseeing.

Check-in is from 12:00 pm and check-out is at 12:00 pm, giving you a full noon-to-noon window , a small but meaningful detail when you're travelling with a dog and need time to settle in without rushing. The property offers a range of amenities that go well beyond what you'd expect from a heritage stay in this price bracket: a spa, sauna, massage services, a swimming pool, hairdressers, and a doctor on call. Airport shuttle and private car service are available at extra charge, and a local shuttle and car rental are also on site. For pet parents arriving in Jaipur by road, the location on Sansar Chandra Road is straightforward to navigate and accessible parking is confirmed at the property.

The staff at Dera Mandawa speak both English and Hindi, which matters when you're trying to communicate specific requirements around your pet , dietary needs, early morning walks, or simply asking for extra towels after your dog's post-pool shake-off. Multiple reviewers single out individual staff members by name for their helpfulness, which suggests a level of personalised attention that larger hotel chains rarely replicate.

Pet Policy at Dera Mandawa

This is a genuinely pet-inclusive stay, not a grudging exception. Dogs and cats are allowed in private rooms , which means your pet sleeps where you sleep, not in a kennel or a car park. The swimming pool is also open to pets, which is uncommon even at properties that otherwise welcome animals. A pet surcharge does apply; the exact figure was not confirmed at the time of listing, so contact the property directly to get current pricing before you arrive. Knowing the fee in advance helps you budget accurately and avoids surprises at checkout.

The property is listed as pet-friendly at extra charge on booking platforms, with dogs allowed and cats allowed both explicitly confirmed. There are no breed or size restrictions mentioned in any source reviewed for this listing , which means large dogs are not automatically excluded , but if you are travelling with a giant breed or a dog that draws attention in close quarters, it is still worth confirming directly. The more information you give the property ahead of arrival, the smoother the check-in experience will be for you and your pet.

One thing worth noting for pet parents with reactive dogs or those travelling with cats: the sources reviewed do not indicate whether there are resident animals on the property. It is worth asking when you call to confirm your pet fee, so you can plan introductions or request a room positioned away from any communal pet traffic.

Location and What's Nearby

Chandpole Gate sits on the western edge of Jaipur's walled city, making Dera Mandawa a genuinely useful base for exploring the Pink City without spending half your day in traffic. The bazaars along Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar are within reasonable distance, and the City Palace is reachable by tuk-tuk , reviewers suggest this is the most practical option given urban congestion. Amber Fort is further afield but manageable as a half-day excursion if you have a car.

For pet parents, the surrounding streets are urban and busy , this is central Jaipur, not a quiet hill station. On-leash walking close to the property is the norm rather than off-leash open space, and the city's traffic, noise, and food vendors mean you'll want to keep your dog close. Early mornings are the most manageable time for a walk before the streets fill up. The hotel's courtyard and pool area provide the best on-site space for your dog to decompress between outings, and the pool access for pets makes this a genuinely useful refuge on a hot Rajasthan afternoon.

Breakfast is served on site and receives positive mentions in reviews , eggs and porridge specifically called out as highlights. Starting the day with a good meal before heading into the old city is a practical advantage when you're also managing a dog's morning routine. In-room dining and on-site restaurant meals are available for other mealtimes, though dinner quality has had mixed reviews and some guests prefer to explore nearby restaurants in the evening.
