We had been wanting to take Apple, Captain, and Kimchi to Jim Corbett for a while. But you know how it is - you keep planning, and life keeps happening. This time we actually did it. All of us piled into the car in the middle of the night from Gurugram and just drove. Because sometimes the best trips start before the sun is even up.

This is the complete breakdown of how that trip went - the stops, the stay, the Kosi River, and three very different dogs encountering the same water in three completely different ways.

Quick facts: Gurugram to Jim Corbett (The Den Corbett Resort area) is approximately 255 km via NH9 and NH34. Drive time overnight is 5.5–6.5 hours with two dog breaks. We arrived at 5 AM. The roads are good until Kashipur; the last stretch into the forest zone narrows. No toll booths inside the reserve zone on this route.

Why We Chose to Drive Overnight

Three reasons. First, Delhi NCR traffic is brutal from 7 AM to 10 PM on most days. An overnight drive means you are on smooth, empty roads from 11 PM onwards. Second, dogs sleep in cars. Three dogs in a Rubicon during the day means three dogs who want out every 45 minutes. Three dogs at night means three sleeping dogs and a quiet cabin. Third, arriving at a forest resort at dawn - the light, the cold air, the birdsong - is genuinely one of the best things you can do. Arriving at 2 PM in traffic is not.

Stop 1 - Village Food Courts, Eastern Peripheral Expressway

35 km from Gurugram. The first stop was Village Food Courts on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Ghaziabad. This is the stop that nobody talks about enough. Clean restrooms. A proper green lawn - actual grass - where Apple stretched her legs and lived her best life. Namaste Noodles and KFC open at any hour. Apple on a green lawn in the middle of a highway pitstop is a vibe that genuinely works.

For dogs, this stop matters because it is the last easy, safe open space before the road narrows and the options thin out. Use it properly - 20 minutes minimum, let them run, water them, and get back in the car happy.

Stop 2 - Kundan's, Gajraula (120 km from Delhi)

Three hours after leaving home, Kundan's in Gajraula came to the rescue. The dogs had their dinner, got their washroom break, walked around, and stretched properly. If you are planning a long road trip with dogs, these stops are not optional. They are everything. Happy dogs make the whole car a better place.

Kundan's is a proper Punjabi dhaba with outdoor seating and a relaxed attitude about dogs. The food is good at midnight and better at 2 AM when you are actually hungry.

Dog feeding on overnight drives: Feed a light meal at the 2-hour mark, not a heavy one. A heavily fed dog in a moving car is a dog who may get car sick on the winding roads after Kashipur. We give the dogs their main meal at Kundan's - about halfway - and a light snack at the first stop.

Arriving at The Den Corbett - 5 AM

We reached The Den Corbett Resort & Spa at 5 in the morning. Even at that hour, the place felt like something special. Set right beside the Kosi River, surrounded by forest, this is genuinely one of the most beautiful pet-friendly properties we have stayed at anywhere in India.

Two connected rooms with a property where your dogs can walk freely. The green lawns, the fresh mountain air, the sound of the river at night - it resets something in you that city life had quietly broken.

The Infinity Pool

We need to talk about the infinity pool. It is pet-friendly. It sits right on the edge of a cliff looking out over the green valley. Apple discovered it and looked at us like we had finally done something right. We had absolutely no idea a place like this existed so close to Delhi, and this alone makes The Den Corbett worth every hour of that overnight drive.

The Kosi River - The Moment That Made the Trip

The real magic happened at the Kosi River. The river runs right beside the property, and we took the Rubicon down for some easy offroading along the banks.

Then the three of them hit the water. Apple waded in like she had been waiting her whole life for this exact river. Kimchi went in with full chaos energy and zero plan - launched herself from a dignified distance before eventually deciding that getting her paws wet was on her own terms. Watching all three of them in the river while the Rubicon sat on the bank and the Kosi flowed quietly around them - that was one of those moments you do not quite find words for. Twenty minutes of dogs being exactly what dogs are supposed to be.

About the Kosi River access: The river is accessible directly from The Den Corbett property. The banks are rocky in places - good footwear matters. The water level varies by season. We visited in May and the river was at a comfortable level for dogs to wade and swim. Avoid monsoon season (July–September) when river levels can be dangerous.

The Property Also Has Other Pet Guests

One detail worth mentioning: The Den Corbett regularly has other pet-owning guests. The dogs handled other guests beautifully - no aggression, no resource guarding, no drama. If you are travelling with a dog who is reactive to other dogs, call ahead and ask about the booking calendar. The staff can advise on timing.
