What to ask and why

India has a pet travel problem - but it is not the one most property owners think. The problem is not that pet parents are difficult guests. The problem is that pet parents cannot find you. The information gap between properties that genuinely welcome dogs and pet parents searching for them is enormous, and it is costing both sides.

This guide is for hotel, resort, homestay, and property owners who already welcome pets - or are considering it - and want to reach the pet parent community specifically.

Who is Pet Friendly Places? We are India's verified pet-friendly travel directory. Every listing is confirmed against a primary source before going live. Pet parents trust the platform specifically because we do not add unverified listings - which means the pet parents who find your property through us are high-intent, well-researched travellers, not casual browsers.

Why Pet Parents Are Your Best Guests

This is not marketing language. It is a pattern we have observed across two years of travelling with dogs in India and hundreds of conversations with both pet parents and property owners.

Pet parents book longer stays. A pet parent who has found a genuinely dog-friendly property does not do a one-night stopover - they plan a proper stay because travelling with a dog requires effort and they want it to be worth the logistics. Average stays are longer and average spends per stay are higher.

Pet parents have a much higher return rate. Finding a property that genuinely works for your dog - where the staff are warm, the outdoor space is accessible, and the policy is clear - is rare enough in India that when you find one, you go back. Repeatedly. And you tell everyone you know.

Pet parents are active on social media in the specific way that drives bookings. A dog at a beautiful property photographs well. Those photos go on Instagram, on travel groups, on WhatsApp communities of pet parents. A single post in a pet travel group can drive twenty enquiries to a property within a week. We have seen this happen multiple times with properties on our platform.

Pet parents leave detailed, specific reviews. Because they have had so many disappointing experiences with properties that claimed to be pet-friendly and were not, when they find a genuinely good one they write about it at length. These reviews convert other pet parents.

What "Pet Friendly" Actually Needs to Mean

Before listing, be honest with yourself about what your property actually offers. Pet parents have been burned enough times that they have developed good instincts for properties that say "pets welcome" but mean "small dogs in a ground floor room with no outdoor access."

The questions pet parents ask before booking:

Are dogs allowed in the room - on the bed, on the sofa, or only on the floor?
Is there enclosed outdoor space where dogs can be off-leash safely?
Is there an extra charge? If yes, how much per night?
Are there size or breed restrictions?
How many pets are allowed per booking?
Is prior notice required?
Are all areas of the property accessible with a dog, or only specific rooms/areas?

If you can answer all of these specifically and honestly, you are ready to list. If some answers are "it depends on the manager on duty," resolve that internally before listing - an inconsistent policy creates the exact bad experience that damages your reviews.

How the Listing Process Works

Getting listed on Pet Friendly Places is straightforward:

Step 1 - Submit your property. Go to petfriendlyplaces.in/add-place and fill in your property details including your complete pet policy. The more specific you are, the better your listing performs - "dogs welcome, no extra charge, private fenced garden, prior notice required" converts far better than "pets allowed."

Step 2 - Verification. Our team will contact you to confirm the policy. This usually means a short phone call or a review of your website. The verification step is what makes listings on our platform trusted - pet parents know we called.

Step 3 - Go live. Once verified, your listing goes live and starts appearing in search results, city hub pages, and category pages. Tails Verified and Team Verified listings appear above Listed tier listings in all search results.

Step 4 - Claim and manage. After listing, you can claim your property to take direct control of the information - update photos, respond to reports, and update your policy when it changes. Use petfriendlyplaces.in/claim-listing to start the claim process.

Listing is free. There is no cost to submit, verify, or maintain your listing on Pet Friendly Places. The platform exists to serve the pet travel community in India - connecting genuinely pet-friendly properties with the pet parents who are actively looking for them.

What the Verification Badge Means for Your Business

Listings that carry the Team Verified badge (violet tick) appear above unverified listings in all search results on the platform. Pet parents specifically look for the badge as a trust signal - they have learned to be skeptical of unverified "pet friendly" claims.

The highest tier - Tails Verified (gold stamp) - is reserved for properties the Travel With Tails founders have personally visited with their three dogs. It cannot be purchased or applied for. It is earned through an actual stay and documented in a full travel story on the platform.

The Properties Already on the Platform

Current listed properties include The Den Corbett Resort & Spa (Tails Verified), Emerald Trail Bhimtal (Tails Verified), and all three Hosteller Rishikesh properties (Team Verified). These properties now appear in every relevant guide, route page, and city hub on the platform - driving qualified traffic from pet parents planning these specific trips.
