Most searches for "pet friendly Airbnb Dehradun" return the same aggregator lists - TripAdvisor tags, Airbnb filters, or Booking.com results where the pet policy is buried in the fine print or just wrong. This guide covers the privately owned stays in the Dehradun district where the pet policy is documented in writing, the experience has been verified from a primary source, and the property genuinely welcomes dogs rather than just tolerating them.

What counts as verified here

Every property in this guide is verified via the booking platform's own house rules page (Hushstays) or directly from the property chain's FAQ (The Hosteller). Pet policy is in writing from the property - not from a review, not from an aggregator tag. This is the difference between "I think it's pet friendly" and "the house rules say so."

Sela Home by O-Bandhu, Pondha - Tails Verified

✓ Tails Verified · Personally visited with Apple, Captain and Kimchi · Private pool, no pet charges, no limit on pets

A boutique, wood-panelled cabin stay built around a private pool and two open lawns. Pets allowed free of charge - no limit on number of pets, no breed or size restrictions - confirmed directly with the property and on our own visit.

What we confirmed on our visit

Dogs are welcome in the pool, on both lawns, and in the restaurant area. Cash-only property - let them know in advance how many dogs you're bringing so check-in stays smooth.

In the City: The Hosteller Dehradun

✓ Team Verified · Same chain as 3 Rishikesh properties · Private rooms only · No extra charge

The most accessible verified option - in Dehradun city itself, near Sahastradhara. Part of The Hosteller chain, whose pet policy is the same across all India properties: private rooms only, strictly no dorms, no extra charge, management reserves right of admission.

Direct confirmation from thehosteller.com: "We permit pets only for private room guests and not dorm bookers. Pets are strictly not allowed in the dorms."

Book a private room - not a dorm

This cannot be overstated. If you book a dorm and arrive with a dog, you will be turned away. Confirm your room type at the time of booking - before you drive 5.5 hours.

Sahastradhara (natural sulphur springs) is walkable from the property - one of the better dog walk areas in Dehradun city. Rishikesh is 44 km away, Mussoorie 26 km. A useful city base if you are doing a multi-stop Garhwal trip.

14 km from Dehradun: Barefoot House, Purkul Village

✓ Team Verified · "We love our furry friends" · Pet meals ₹700/day · British cottage · Mussoorie foothills

Purkul Gaon village, 14 km from Dehradun station and 20 km from Mussoorie. A 35-year-old British-style cottage with colourful interiors, a glass-panelled dining area with garden views, and a landscaped garden with fruit trees where dogs have space to move. WiFi available. Breakfast included.

The pet policy from Hushstays house rules is the most explicitly dog-welcoming of any property on this platform: "We love our furry friends. Please make sure that they are well-mannered and that nothing is damaged. Bring your own pet bedding. Pets not allowed on sofas or beds. Pet meals also available at the property at INR 700 per day."

The only property with a documented dog meal rate

₹700 per day for dog meals prepared by the in-house cook. This is the only property across all our verified listings in the Dehradun district where a specific per-day dog meal rate is documented. Inform at booking if you want this arranged.

30 km from Rishikesh: Van Vadi Forest Retreat, Thano

✓ Team Verified · Award-winning architecture · 3 resident dogs · All meals · 6-acre forest · 12 km from Jolly Grant Airport

Dharkot village, Thano - 30 km from Rishikesh city, 12 km from Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun). Technically in Dehradun district and the natural choice if you are flying into Dehradun rather than driving. Platinum Award winner (Festival of Architecture and Interior Design 2023). Six acres of forest on a hill. All meals included. The owners have three dogs of their own.

Your dog must be sociable with other dogs

The owners have three resident dogs - two females and one male. If your dog is reactive with other dogs, Van Vadi is not the right fit. If your dog is sociable, this is the most extraordinary setting on the list. A guest walked the Van Vadi dogs on leash through the forest trails. 250 bird species recorded at Thano.

The last 15 minutes of the drive is off-road - good ground clearance recommended. Vegetarian food only. No WiFi, 4G only.

40 km from Mussoorie: Garhwal Cottage, Kanatal

✓ Team Verified · 7,200 ft · Century-old stone cottage · Himalayan peak views · Leopard forest adjacent

Kaudia Range, Kanatal - 40 km from Mussoorie, 70 km from Dehradun, approximately 5.5 hours from Delhi via Dehradun. A century-old stone cottage at 7,200 feet with French windows framing snow-capped Himalayan peaks on clear days. Breakfast included. WiFi available. 5-minute uphill walk from parking. Guided sunset hike on request.

Wildlife safety - leash essential at all times outdoors

The Kaudia forest adjacent to the property has documented leopards, Himalayan bears, and barking deer. Dogs must be on leash at all times outdoors and must not be left unattended outside after dark. This is not a precaution - it is a firm requirement at this location.

Driving to Dehradun from Delhi

Standard route: NH58 via Meerut and Haridwar - 300 km, approximately 5.5 to 6 hours. Stop at Village Food Courts on the EPE (35 km from Gurgaon - first proper dog break out of city traffic). If taking the longer NH9 route via Gajraula, Kundan's in Gajraula (120 km) is a good midpoint break with outdoor dhaba seating for dogs.

🗺️

Dehradun is the gateway to the entire Garhwal region. From the city: Rishikesh 44 km · Mussoorie 26 km · Haridwar 55 km · Kanatal 85 km · Lansdowne 115 km. If you are planning a multi-stop Uttarakhand trip with your dog, Dehradun makes a logical base for the first night.
