There is a version of a dog park that exists in every Indian city. It is a regular park. Your dog is on a leash. Nobody has specifically said no dogs. You let your dog sniff around the perimeter while keeping one eye on the guard who may or may not feel like making today the day he enforces something.
That is not a dog park. That is a park with a tolerant atmosphere and no written policy either way.
The difference matters more than people think. A dog who needs to run freely, burn energy properly, play with other dogs without a leash creating tension, and just be a dog for 40 minutes without you managing every step is a different dog by the end of it. The leash walk is not a substitute. It is a different activity.
What makes a real dog park
Separation by size. The better dog parks have two zones. Small dogs in one area, large dogs in another. This is a sign that the park was designed by someone who understands dogs.
Water access. A space where dogs exercise needs water available without you having to carry everything.
Vaccination policy. Any dog park that does not check vaccination records at the gate is not safe.
Delhi NCR
Dedicated purpose-built dog parks
Delhi's First Dog Park in Rajinder Nagar is the benchmark. Fenced, maintained, with a large dog and small dog separation. The crowd on weekend mornings is a community. Regulars know each other's dogs by name.
Bark n Walk in Bijwasan is the second option in this category. Fenced, dedicated, operational. Worth the drive for South and West Delhi residents.
Dog parks attached to pet cafes
Parks with informal dog cultures
Deer Park in Hauz Khas, Garden of Five Senses, Lodhi Garden. These are not dog parks. But they have large enough grounds and enough established informal culture that bringing a well-socialised dog on a leash works without incident.
Bengaluru
Bengaluru's dog park situation is more developed than most Indian cities. The density of dog-owning residents in Indiranagar, Koramangala, and Sarjapur Road has created enough demand that dedicated spaces have appeared.
The Cubbon Park dog walking culture in Bengaluru is well-established. Like Delhi's equivalent spaces, Cubbon Park is not a dog park. It is a large green space where dogs and their people have established informal rights through consistent, considerate use over years.
Mumbai
Mumbai's geography creates a specific challenge. The city is long and narrow, land is expensive, and green space per resident is limited.
Jogger's Park in Bandra is the most-cited dog-friendly outdoor space in Mumbai. It is not a fenced dog park. It is a park where dogs and their people have always been welcome and the culture has been maintained by the regulars who use it. Early morning, before the jogger crowd builds up, is when it works best for dogs.
The honest assessment for Mumbai: if you need a fully fenced, off-leash space in Mumbai proper, the options are genuinely limited.
The indie dog and dog park question
Indie dogs are welcome at every dog park we have listed here. Tail Club in Gurugram is explicitly all breeds, all sizes, no pedigree requirement. The vaccination card is the document that matters, not the breed papers.
The safety checklist before every park visit
Is your dog's vaccination up to date? If no, wait until it is. Has your dog eaten recently? Wait at least an hour after a meal before play. Do you have water? Do not assume the park's supply is enough. Is your dog wearing a collar with your contact information? In an off-leash space, a collar with a current phone number is non-negotiable.
FAQ
Are there dog parks in Delhi?
Yes. Delhi's First Dog Park in Rajinder Nagar is the city's dedicated off-leash space. Bark n Walk in Bijwasan is another verified option. Tail Club in Gurugram offers a managed off-leash experience with entry fee and vaccination check. Several public parks like Deer Park and Lodhi Garden have established dog walking cultures, though these are not dedicated dog parks and on-leash behaviour is expected around other park users.
Is there a dog park in Bangalore?
Bengaluru has informal dog-friendly outdoor spaces in parks like Cubbon Park, and several dedicated spaces that have opened in newer residential areas. The verified picks for Bengaluru are updated in the Water and Nature category of this platform.
Can dogs go off leash in Indian parks?
In dedicated, fenced dog parks, yes. In general public parks, the answer depends on the specific park's rules and the presence of other users. Off-leash in a crowded public park without prior agreement from other users is not fair to people who did not choose to be around dogs.
Do dog parks in India check vaccination?
The better ones do. Tail Club in Gurugram checks vaccination cards at every entry. Carry your dog's vaccination card to any dog park regardless of whether you know they will check.
Apple, Captain and Kimchi have strong opinions about dog parks. Apple thinks any park is improved by water. Captain thinks the fence is a suggestion. Kimchi believes the point is the other dogs, not the space. Between the three of them, they have tested more off-leash spaces than we planned to when we started this.
